This new play takes place about 55 years ago and is, in the words of playwright Jerry Jones, “based on some truth.” The titular location of the action is a Black nightclub on the south side of Chicago, when racial divisions in big cities were far more sharply drawn than they are today. It was a time when singers like Dinah Washington and comedians like Moms Mabley were headliners in Chicago and at Black clubs in other cities. Black racketeers were making piles of cash by running numbers games. So much money, in fact, that they attracted the attention of the Italian mob, which tried to muscle its way in via extortion and murder.

The cast of “The Chicago Club Rumboogie”  includes Fitz Houston, Ernie King, Carl Crudup, Ray Flournoy, Darren Bailey, Angela Bennett, Alvina Carroll, Sherrima Queen, Lynne Conner-Smith, Diana Charles, Ikeya Morning, Bobby Jasmine, Bud Sabatino, Andraus Miranda, Tommy Franklin, Brian Marshall, Andy Brosseau, Sid Burston, P. David Miller, Jimmy Sheeran and JoAnn Rose.

Vocalists include Lindsay Ford, Conchita Belisle, Dawn Mondie.

Dancers include Cayce Clay, Kristen L. Herbert, Leaundra Lewis and Sylvia Zabransky.
