LeRoy Downs and Mike Jacobi at KRML 1410 AM

Mike Jacobi and I met backstage at the 47th
Annual Monterey Jazz Festival. I was the master of ceremonies on the Night Club
stage and Paula West was on stage performing. Mike Jacobi is good friends with
Paula and he slipped backstage to check out her performance from the wings. We
met and talked for a moment and he invited me on his Saturday show at the only
jazz station in Carmel,
KRML 1410 AM.
We had a great time talking about all the things that are
happening with me and jazz! I used to broadcast on KRML myself. When I worked
the Saturday overnight show for 88.1 FM KLON in Los Angeles, KRML used to pick
up the feed from KLON just about the time that my show came on the air. So many
people in Carmel and Monterey already used to listen to my radio
program. It was nice to have an opportunity to get back to Carmel and be in touch with the jazz
community once again.
Mike has a two hour show there at KRML from 1pm – 3pm once a week and it is
called “Raising the Standards”. It is a show where he does interviews and also
plays the standards. Standards by everyone you can think of and not just the
ones that we are so accustomed to hearing over and over again. The interview
was about twenty minutes long and we had a great time on the air. When I get a
copy of the interview, I will post it for you so you can check it out!
