Benefit Concert for Inner City Arts Foundation, a program for
underprivileged elementary school students that educates them in
various art forms. This exposure to the arts helps them perform
better both creatively and academically.

The Jazz Festival is to facilitate interaction between the jazz
programs of local high schools. By allowing musicians to play, learn,
and socialize with one another in an organized setting, a stronger
sense of community is developed between the musicians and their
respective schools. Just as football teams compete in games, and Mock
Trial or Model UN have conventions, the Harvard Westlake Jazz program
would greatly benefit from an annual convention of our own, in which
we could gauge our progress against that of our peers and could have
the opportunity to play with new musicians.

The Jazz Festival is to give Harvard Westlake jazz musicians and the
musicians of the included local schools the opportunity to work with
and learn from renowned jazz musicians from the LA area. It is a
greatly enriching experience for jazz ensembles and individual
musicians to receive feedback in a noncompetitive setting from
someone for whom they incredible respect but do not have a personal
relationship.

This coming year, our goal is to generate even more contributions for
this noble charity, and in order to do that we will need outside
financial support.  Our final goal is to make the Harvard Westlake
Jazz Festival an annual event that will be carried on by students
from the Jazz Program for many years to come. We strongly feel that
this would greatly benefit both the students and the school.
