by jazzcat on Sep.15, 2004, under News
You are in for a treat on Friday, October 1st at 5:30 pm. Vibraphonist Joe Locke
is scheduled to hit the stage at the American Museum of Natural History’s Starry
Nights concert series. Lucky listeners can hear the concert live on WBGO and
even luckier audience members get to see the lively and animated Locke perform.
He never gives a disappointing show.
Joe Locke began his career in music as a youth playing the
drums. He later switched to the vibes and has become one of the music industry’s
most gifted vibraphonists. He has played as a sideman with a very diverse group
of artists, Dizzy Gillespie, Dianne Reeves, Cecil Taylor and the Beastie Boys.
He is constantly in demand because of his ability to play cool and funky, as
well as relaxed and jazzy.
Starry Nights is held every first Friday of the month at the
Museum’s Rose Center for Earth and Space, Hall of the Universe. Admission to the
event is free with suggested Museum admission. For further information on the
Starry Nights series, check www.amnh.org.
