Michael Sessions at LACMA

One of the greatest things about Los
Angeles in the summertime is free jazz. It seems as though in recent
years, these wonderful events become far and fewer in between. However,
LACMA stands strong in its commitment for our great art form and this
is evidently noted by booking one of the most intriguing, exciting
and lyrically dynamic bands in LA, “The Michael
Sessions Sextet”.
These cats appear every year here
at LACMA and the place is always packed when they perform.
The sextet includes some of the most outstanding players in LA and
they are all here together once again to dazzle, thrill, and
amaze!
Michael Sessions of course on Alto and Soprano spittin' intellectual fire with every note, my man and long time great friend John Rangel on Piano (Check him out on the video page), Trevor Ware, one of LA’s finest on Bass and one of the coolest cats around, living legend Phil Ranelin on Trombone, master bone player, composer and leader, Steve Smith on trumpet holdin’ down the front line, and on drums, the amazing Fritz Wise.
Sessions plays with all of these cats on a regular basis, which is why they sound so damn goooood! The Michael Sessions sextet is always one of the highlights of the LACMA series. They will also be featured at the Verizon Music Festival later this month on Saturday July 24th playing at the World Stage so don’t miss.
Here are a few video clips of the performance
