If Trane Wuz Here

When you say Trane, you speak of a level of musical spiritual freedom created by one of the greatest facilitators of jazz music. Anyone honoring or giving tribute to this wonderful human being knows about the higher order of cognitive creativity.

What if Trane were here? The question does pose some interesting thoughts. Can you imagine the vast amount of jazz music we would have. I don’t have to wonder what it would sound like because I know it would be outstanding! We would have more Trane masterpieces for sure!

It is already phenomenal when you listen to great music but, when you combine music with dance and spoken word, you are certainly in for the best of all three worlds. It is all art at its finest and Savion Glover, Matana Roberts and Reg E Gains were a trilogy of cross blends that have the common denominator of African rhythm, soul and a Love Supreme!

Savion is a percussive wonder on tap. The polyrhythmic sound of tap, alto and voice transfer you back to some small smoky club that Trane and Elvin would have played. I wish I could have experienced that! Savion was throwin’ down like a 1950 drummer. A one man non-stop African tribe tapping and dancing for peace and love, certainly a few of “My Favorite Things”!

As the alto blows a tornado of sound, the Nature Boy calls out to Naima as they take Giant Steps to get on the Blue Trane which is one of their Favorite Things to do as they search for A Love Supreme! Savion, drenched in the waters of creativity, flowed effortlessly providing the rhythm for the kool ass rap of Reg E Gains which makes you wonder what would happen, “ If Trane Wuz Here!”

A must see!
