New York, New York! What an exciting place to be. In 3 ½ days, I experienced snow, rain, cold, sunshine, two plays, good food and great jazz music! On the first night I took a walk around the Greenwich Village playing in the snow at 1am. I stayed in the village and on Thursday morning I took a long walk up to Time Square. Man, it is super crazy in Time Square. It seems like you can have anything that you want and it is all right there. That night I went to see a friend perform in a showcase of short scenes and sonnets. Afterwards, we all went out to a restaurant called the Tomato, great food!

On Friday I hung out in Brooklyn with my partner Eric Person. We went to breakfast and outside the window, there was this cat swingin’ this yo yo. You got to check this out!

On Friday night I checked out a Broadway show. Throughly Modern Millie. It was kind of cheesy but, still great fun. Then off to Don Giovanni’s for great Italian food. I saw this cop on the train that was the perfect New York cop prototype.

Saturday night was a great jam at Joe’s Pub. Eric Person, got down. He has played with McCoy Tyner, Chico Hamilton, The World Saxophone Quartet and Dave Holland just to name a few. He has a band called Meta-four and a new disc called “Live at Big Sur”. I announced his gig in Big Sur and got to be on his album when it came out! You can peep some samples at www.ericperson.com

I had an early flight on Sunday morning so I stayed up all night at a place called “Fat Cat Jazz”. They have jazz, ping pong and pool until 4am. I ran into Aaron Goldberg playing with this cat named Eli, EJ Strictland, and Sam Yahel were there as well. Aaron and Sam have played with Joshua Redman on a few of his disc and EJ just got off a gig with Ravi Coltrane at the Jazz Gallery.

Here are a few pics from the trip! Hopefully, next time, I will be able to stay longer and check out some more jazz. NYC is a blast! I can’t wait to return!

Peace
