Hydeus Kiatta performed at Lunaria Jazz and Supper Club once again but, this time with a different twist. Her music has jazz, Middle Eastern and folk influences and can be arranged with different instrumentation to bring out the multitude of flavors that it has to offer. Here in
Hydeus, who was recently featured with Greg Poree in the musical spotlight on the jazz television show “Jazz in the Modern Era” is very empathetic to the world and all of its inadequate human inconsistencies. This love for the potential of how much better our world can be is felt in her lyrics as she sings, scats and reaches through each octave to reach the perfect tone to express her feelings. Tall, gorgeous, a beautiful smile and warm heart are just a few amenities that you get not only from the singer but, especially the person.
Greg Poree plays some beautifully melting chords on his guitar. He and Derf have worked together before on a recording but, have not been in the studio at the same time. This was an opportunity for the two players to collaborate their talents in person and they added some nice rhythmically enhancing variants to Hydeus’ music as well as on “The Nearness of you” and a few other standards performed that evening.
With a few new tunes in her arsenal, Hydeus is
currently redeveloping her website and working on a DVD that will be
used primarily for promotional material for festivals here and
overseas. In January, she will be taking a trip to
