What a wonderful oasis I have discovered on the other side of town. The wide open space is filled with the rich aroma of jazz music. It is a secret, no, it is the Westin LAX Hotel and jazz music is alive in the lobby every week. The Westin hotel is located near the airport and on this first venture of mine, I was delighted to find all of those lovely faces of jazz supporters that I see so often. Michael Turre was lighting up the place within an eight piece Latin ensemble and the enthusiastic crowd roared! On the bandstand this week was the Michael Turre Latin Jazz team!
I spent in the evening with a group of wonderful and interesting women who enjoy great jazz music. We listened to great original music ranging from the super Latin to the rhythmically melodic soul of compositions from Michael's latest disk called “Compositions”. The late great Chuck Niles used to play this disk quite often on his radio show here in Los Angeles. Certainly a disk to put in when you are ready to get your Latin groove on!
Well, if all goes well, this might be a new home for me. Meaning, the Westin LAX hotel may have a new master ceremonies on their hands. Yes, I will be speaking with management next week and could quite possibly be the new host for the LAX Westin hotel. So I invite you to come on down and see some great jazz music on Wednesday nights from 6 PM and until 11 PM.
