The band comes back to the stage and they are joined by Deanna, Airto and Flora’s daughter. She sings and sounds just like her mom at that age but, of course she has her own “Eyedentity”!
The music emanates the power of
Airto leads the band with lightning speed and every instrument on the stage explodes with percussive wonder.
During the break I hung out with Deanna and
We spent most of the time talking about the music, the audience and the state of Jazz music. The question is “Why aren’t people coming out to support live jazz music?” It is one of the most wonderful art forms on the planet and for years, almost for its entire existence, the jazz audience gets smaller and smaller. This is a labor of love and it cannot exist without you love and support!
During the second set, Airto moves from drums to percussion and he summons the spirits of music and love with shouts and chants and a cavalcade of musical sounds ranging from whistles and cowbells to hoses and shoe boxes. This is a family affair of rhythm, rap, synthesizers, electric bass and guitar with a touch of Portuguese which leads to a dynamically melodic and beautifully hip piece of music. Compositions that you are for sure not going to hear anywhere else. Rockin’, rollin’, livin’ for the rhythm and dying for the rhyme!
Flora sang “Windows” which is only one of Chick Corea’s tunes that she sings so beautifully. Catch this band tonight at the new Catalina Bar and Grill on Sunset in the heart of
LeRoy Downs
