A wonderfully warm and welcome reception to a vocalist whose style and delivery are unprecedented, Mr. Andy Bey!

I walked in the door of the Jazz Bakery and there he was. So available, so humble and such an incredible talent! I met Barbara Collins, his booking agent, who manages so many other great artists that I know that you know. Andy Milne, Sweet Baby Jai and of course the maestro for the evening Andy Bey.

Barbara must have done a great job promoting because the house was packed with an anxious crowd. Suddenly, Andy and his band walk to the stage, the microphone is on and the Bakery is silenced by the lovely voice.

He brought his own band which consisted of Kiyoshi Kitagawa on Bass, Mark McLean on drums and Paul Meyers on guitar.

Dynamic, rich, full, delightful, low, lush and full of life, Andy embellishes his wonderful tone and phrasing technique while playing with the ivory.

This cat has recorded with Max Roach, Horace Silver, Gary Bartz and so many others, not to mention some outstanding recordings of his own. His latest is called “American Song” and he performed a few tunes from this recording this evening..

Swingin’ with all the changes, Andy and his band deliver with the style and grace that makes him the consummate classic jazz singer that he is.

Andy will be at the Jazz Bakery until Sunday, April 25th so, don’t miss your opportunity to see one of the best!
