GSI Records is proud to present Live in Manhattan, a fresh interpretation of the classic John

Coltrane album, “Live in Seattle”. Live in Manhattan was recorded at GSI Studios with a live studio audience. The band pays tribute to Coltrane by playing the same setlist as the original record, and by using the same unique instrumentation: two saxophones, two basses, piano, and drums. To be released on October 5th, Live in Manhattan features Chris Potter and Daniel Rovin on saxophones, Taylor Eigsti on piano, Larry Grenadier and Austin White on bass, and Eric Harland drums. You can see a preview video of the album here. Live in Manhattan will be available on most platforms including iTunes and Spotify.

New York-based pianist and composer Taylor Eigsti has released seven albums since being labeled as a prodigy at age four. In addition to leading and performing with various small ensembles, Eigsti composed the theme music to the motion picture Detachment (2011) as well as a song for Don Cheadle’s new Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead (2016). Eigsti has also had the opportunity to compose music for various symphony orchestras and has written a growing repertoire of music for jazz ensembles. Various soloist and compositional features include the Oakland East Bay Symphony, New York Pops, Buffalo Orchestra, Boston Youth Symphony, and multiple collaborations with the Peninsula Symphony Orchestra. In 2006, Taylor received two Grammy nominations for Best Jazz Solo and Best Instrumental Composition. He has also been featured as a sideman on many award winning albums over the years.

As one of contemporary jazz’s most respected and accomplished bassists, Larry Grenadier has built an expansive body of work that encompasses a variety of projects with many of the genre’s most inventive and influential musicians. His trademark upright bass work has been a longstanding fixture in the bands of pianist Brad Mehldau and guitarist Pat Metheny, and has graced albums by a broad array of prestigious artists, including Paul Motian, Charles Lloyd, Enrico Rava, Danilo Perez, Chris Potter, Joshua Redman and Kurt Rosenwinkel. He’s also made three albums with his own acclaimed trio Fly, and recorded five more with his wife, noted singer-songwriter Rebecca Martin.

Grammy-winning drummer Eric Harland has established himself as one of the premier jazz musicians of our time. He’s collaborated with artists including John Mayer, Les Claypool, Dave Holland, Charles Lloyd, Mariah Carey, Kevin Eubanks. Harland has been on over 400 recordings, numerous film scores and has been seen on the cover of publications such as Downbeat, Drummer and JazzTimes. Eric’s extensive resume includes founding his own production company, Eland Productions, and serving as Resident Artistic Director at the 2014-2016 Seasons of SFJAZZ. Eric was born in Houston, Texas and obtained degrees from Manhattan School of Music and Houston Baptist University.

Chris Potter has emerged as a leading light of his generation. The youngest musician ever to win Denmark’s Jazzpar Prize, Potter’s impressive discography includes fifteen albums as a leader and sideman appearances on over 100 albums. He was nominated for a Grammy Award for his solo work on “In Vogue,” a track from Joanne Brackeen’s 1999 album Pink Elephant Magic, and was prominently featured on Steely Dan’s Grammy-winning album from 2000, Two Against Nature. He has performed or recorded with many of the leading names in jazz, such as Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, John Scofield and many others.

Saxophone player Daniel Rovin was born in New York City and grew up in Greenville, South Carolina. A passion for the avant-garde, Daniel draws heavily from influences such as Sonny Rollins, Albert Ayler, Dewey Redman and Pharaoh Sanders. Daniel has toured throughout the country and internationally alongside Eric and Austin in Rude Unkal, and with his trio Karl 2000.

Austin White moved to New York in 2007 to study music, and opened GSI with Daniel and Eric in 2011. Having studied bass with the likes of Reggie Workman, Austin continues his musical pursuits with several bands such as the avant-noise outfit The Red and Whites, the free jazz trio Karl 2000, and individually with the noise research project housewife.
